Crystal lighting
Crystal does something no other material does: it breaks the light up and scatters it around the room. Pieces like these are best chosen in person, because photos rarely show what they do when lit.
What to look for
See it switched on
The effect depends on the light source inside. A piece looks very different lit than unlit.
Globe choice
Clear globes bring out the sparkle. Frosted globes soften it.
Cleaning access
Crystal needs occasional cleaning. Think about how you will reach it, especially over a stairwell.
Weight
Crystal is heavy. Confirm the ceiling can carry it before you buy.
